Unlaced: An Exhibition

Watch here for information on this exciting show-in-progress!

Project Statement

I am a Milwaukee based artist in the process of creating an exhibition featuring corsets as a focus of cultural and social contrasts.  Though corsets have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the last couple of years, I have been studying, building and incorporating the image of the corset into my art for over a decade.

My exhibition will highlight the controversy and contrast that the corset seems to elicit in our society, through the use of traditional and non-traditional media.  A series of corsets constructed from unusual materials (e.g. paper, wood, metal, clay) will provide stark contrast to a number of corset-focused paintings and drawings executed in a neo-classical manner.

The larger theme is based in an examination of different perspectives- cultural and social- as well as inevitable focus on the reconfiguring of the female body and how that reflects our self esteem/social values.

It is my hope that the viewer will take away an experience that can be applied in helping to understand other cultures and societies from a global perspective.

To keep you involved, as I develop the plans for the exhibit's pieces I will upload the sketches to this page!

BE MY MUSE!

Do you have an amazing picture in or with a corset? It could be the inspiration for a painting in THIS exhibition!

Through the end of May 2010 I will be accepting digital submissions from photographers and models (with the photographers permission).

You will be contacted if your submission is chosen, your name will be in the title, you will receive a high-res copy of the painting once complete and you will also receive an opportunity to purchase the painting after the exhibition run!

Please send any submissions with model and photographer credits, in a hi-res format to twilightattire@yahoo.com or at the address on my Contact link. I retain the right to use any chosen submissions for purposes related solely to the exhibition.

Any submissions not chosen will be deleted for privacy, and I will not retain any right to use them now or in the future.
